Kurunji Flowers by Clare Fylnn

...after writing my condolences, our only contact was the annual exchange of Christmas cards.

The world is not kind to women who challenge its being a man's world whether through their own assertions of freedom or upon having their own willingness to conform to societal expectations be subverted by a man. The only difference is in the form which consequences take: death in one part of the world, exile or estrangement in another. Set in the last days of Empire and spanning two countries, this book tells of a woman's attempts to control her own life highlighting, along the way, how little is in each one of our own hands, how much we don't know of our closest relationships, and how fragile our bonds to each other are.
