One Day I Will Write About This Place: A Memoir by Binyavanga Wainaina

The sun does not break up into pieces. It does not break up into disembodied parts when it falls into trees and things. Each piece of the sun is always a complete little sun.

Wainaina died earlier this year which perhaps makes reading his memoir in late 2019 not quite what reading it a year ago would have been. He writes of his early life demonstrating throughout that 'Africa is Not a Country', a theme he often highlighted, and showing that despite it all, there isn't so much that's different about humans regardless of where they're from. He died at 48, almost a decade after this was written.
